I have seen Infinite Campus get more difficult to comprehend over the years that I've worked with BVSD, so I totally understand that it can be a bit confusing to open up IC to figure out what is going on with your grades. I also appreciate that you may have self-advocated for yourself about your grade, in a sufficient amount of time before the end of the quarter.
I wanted to give you a set of questions that will help you (hopefully) pinpoint concerns with your grade on your own, so that you are better equipped for 8th grade and high school, and a better end-user of Infinite Campus. One step better than what you did would be to identify the concern on your own, see if you have the resources/knowledge to fix it yourself, and just come up with the solution yourself. If we can't get there, getting to a more focused point of concern is better for you (and your teachers) as well. Think about the difference between:
1) "Can you tell me how to get my grade up?"
vs.
2) "Mr. Laman, I noticed that I have a missing assignment called <something>. I have found that in my binder, and I wanted to see if it would still be okay to turn in."
or
3) "Mr. Laman, I noticed that I got a poor grade on one of my assignments. I need to conference with you about what I can do for meaningful corrections. Is there a good time to meet with you about that?"
#2 and #3 show responsibility on your part, and as you move to a larger system like high school and beyond, will be a necessary skill to have.
1) Have you checked Infinite Campus to see if there is any work marked as "missing" or any grades that either the math shows that they are lower than expected, or with the "marks" system I am using, are marked as "Incomplete", "Emerging", or "Poor"? Identifying these works would be a starting place for turning in missing work and identifying what needs meaningful corrections.
2) Do you know what to do with these assignments, or what to do to make these meaningful corrections? If so, do you need to schedule time to do this work at school, put it in your planner, or add it to your homework folder? If not, have you communicated with Mr. Laman about these assignments to get clarification?
3) Do you have the materials and resources you need for these assignments? If not, are there resources on Mr. Laman's website you can use, or an email you could send him about specific assignments so he can send you those resources?
I hope this helps!
