Here is an example of a PBL Unit we have completed in our community to give you an idea of what it looks like:
Students answered the driving question by choosing a focus area: chickens laying eggs in the winter, water conservation or the Erie Food Bank. The following videos give an overview of each of the project elements. Enjoy!
Entry Event: Students collected materials from the prairie habitat around Thomas Reservoir. They recreated a prairie habitat in collaborative groups through the design thinking process. We then conducted a mock town hall meeting with representatives from the different viewpoints on development versus preservation of the natural habitat. Students then had to place their Lego homes in their prairie habitats to represent human impact on the environment.
We are building background with Mr. Bob. He is an animal rescue specialist. The students had a ton of fun asking him questions about his unique job and how it relates to our habitat.
We have done extensive research on our animals and habitats. We are taking that information from notes and turning it into a published piece to be displayed in the Curiosity Center.
