This is an advanced weighted level course designed to prepare students for the IB Language B exams in Spanish. Instruction will be delivered 95% in Spanish , only using English very little in “as needed” situations.
in IB Spanish we follow thematic units for learning the language. Special emphasis is placed on grammatical accuracy in these areas, building vocabulary, and developing fluid speech while studying real world situations and literary works. We will be using a variety of readings, videos, films and conversational activities during the course. Students are expected to speak in Spanish in-class daily. Work includes cultures of the Spanish-speaking peoples, longer readings, and more extensive writing. Students will review grammatical structures, write compositions, make oral presentations, and read and discuss a variety of texts at an advanced level. In class, students are expected to work well both independently and in groups and to speak exclusively the target language. In the examinations, students will be expected to discuss the IBO themes in a group as well as individually; to read with comprehension a wide variety of texts; and to write and speak with grammatical accuracy, displaying a broad range of vocabulary.
