We are focusing on non-fiction and fiction reading skills using short and engaging passages. Depending on the group your child is in and the lesson for that week, the reading skills will vary. Some examples of reading skills include: finding the main idea and supporting it with details from the text or using time and sequence words to understand how events in history are connected.
In addition, each class is reading a book together and completing a literature study. Mrs. Haseloh's class is reading Rules, Mr. Palsmeier's class is reading Walk Two Moons, and Mr. Lund's class is reading Maniac Magee.
Finally, the students listen to an Interactive Read Aloud each day. The books are from our Fountas and Pinnell reading curriculum and are centered around a weekly theme. The theme this week is poetry and the essential question is "How do the authors of these books use poetic elements to appeal to your thoughts and feelings?"
