About the Teacher Librarian

Hi, I'm Mrs. Volkmar. I love being a Teacher Librarian, because I get to teach every student in the whole school!

My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I have an MA in English and a BA in American Literature, both from Middlebury College in Vermont. I also have an MA from CU-Denver in Learning Design and Technology, with certificates in Leadership for K-12 Libraries, as well as Digital Pedagogy and New Literacy. I hold a Colorado endorsement as a Teacher Librarian, as well as in the areas of Elementary Education, Special Education, and Secondary English Education. This is my twelfth year in education, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Heatherwood Elementary community!

Although I grew up in Massachusetts, I have called Colorado home since 2004. When I'm not in the library, you can find me walking my dogs around Coot Lake, skiing in Eagle County, reading a book on my patio in North Boulder, or jumping on the trampoline with my husband and three children.

I love walking in the rain, riding bikes with my kids, visiting the ocean, crab cakes, Taco Tuesday, dancing to old Whitney Houston songs, Colorado's 10th Mountain Division Huts, watching my kids jump into a swimming pool, books by Ann Patchett and Michael Chabon, sunsets, hearing my kids say “Thank you,” Disneyland, dogs, New York City, washing machines, fall foliage, Thanksgiving, laughing until I cry, and learning new things.

I'm so excited to share this year of learning!
