I have a Bachelor's degree in Art Education with an emphasis in 3 dimensional art; ceramics, sculpture and welding, and I am certified kindergarten through 12th grade. I also have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Pedagogy and am certified in Elementary Education kindergarten through 5th grade.
I have been at Fireside Elementary since the spring of 2005, and I consider this building my 2nd home! I love it here!
I have 2 wonderful children and a fantastic husband...they make me smile, laugh and go bonkers every single day. They make me so happy!
I grew up in a small coastal town in southern Maine. I spent many, many days on the sandy beaches or in the coastal fields. During high school, my family moved to the British Virgin Islands, Tortola. Once I finished school, I again moved to the ocean. I miss the ocean, but my family and I travel each summer to the coast of Maine to visit my mom and dad or to Northern Michigan to my in-laws. I truly love the water, but the mountains are now what bring me joy and excitement! I love Colorado, and all that it has to offer. There is so much to do in every season! When I am not at school I love to travel, garden, ski, visit with friends, host farm to table gatherings, golf (really just driving the golf cart) and so much more!
I look forward to fostering our Fireside students’ love of the Arts! I strongly believe the Arts are an integral part of our community and help students understand their world around them. I look forward to a wonderful school year with you all!
I am so lucky to be a part of the Fireside community and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE being a physical education teacher.
Born and raised in Arvada, Colorado, I grew up playing sports, and to this day, I love the challenge and excitement a good rally in pickleball brings or the bliss of watching a beautiful Colorado sunset while riding bikes with my family on the amazing trails around Louisville. I received my bachelor’s degree in Germanic Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder (GO BUFFS) and my master’s degree in Sport Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.
I am married to Andrew Johnson, who is a PE teacher at Platt Middle School, and we have two awesome boys, Duke and Callahan, and an adorable golden retriever named Lou.
Every year, I can't wait to work with the Fireside kids to inspire them to lead a kind and healthy life. In PE, we can not only focus on healthy food choices and skill development, but we look at being a part of a team and practice treating all of your teammates with RESPECT and KINDNESS.
I am honored to be a part of the Fireside Family and look forward to joyfully making music with your children this year! A little about me...I grew up on a farm in southern Iowa, where I cultivated a love of animals, gardening, and music. I earned a BA and BM in vocal performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and my MMEd at CU Boulder. I have taught in BVSD for over 25 years at the high school, middle school, and elementary level, and I have had 3 of my choirs selected to perform at the Colorado Music Educators Association conference in Colorado Springs. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2014. I live here in Louisville with my two teenaged sons, husband, and dog and feel a strong connection to this community. I love singing and playing bluegrass music and love playing at various jams in the area. I am so excited to be a part of your very special school community!
