In Spanish 3 we expand upon the communicative abilities developed during our previous langauge study. More specifically, we continue to refine our ability to use the past tenses to narrate events in the past, but we also begin to practice imperatives, conditional and other more complex tenses that refine our communication. We still talk about activities in the present, past and future and expand upon our knowledge of idiomatic expressions, building community along the way as we get to know each other. We will talk about a variety of topics including cultural studies of the Spanish-speaking world, and we will delve into scaffolded authentic texts and cultural artifacts like visual art, music, and literature. We still focus on language INPUT first (listening and reading) so students have lots of exposure to the language, but always insuring that students are comprehending it all as well. This leads to increasing student confidence in speaking and writing. As we grow in our ability to communicate, it is my hope that students become ever more curious and informed about the world we inhabit.
