Policies and Expectations
Mr. O’Brien
Course Description: This class is offered to help students develop study and organizational skills and to provide extended time and tutorial assistance for studnts to complete assignments and prepare for tests in other classes. Strategies related to organization, study skills, and self-advocacy will be taught to help students be successful in high school setting and to prepare them for further academic opportunities, vocational training, and life after graduation from high school.
Responsibilities:
It will be the teacher’s responsibility to provide:
· Effective instruction in study and organizational skills
· Tutorial assistance in all classes
· An atmosphere conducive to learning
· Progress monitor IEP goals
· Communication with parents and students about their progress
It will be the student’s responsibility to:
· Attend class daily and on time
· Communicate his/her educational needs
· Come to class prepared to work and take advantage of the tutorial assistance available
· Complete the assignments related to the above objectives
· Update grades/progress weekly through infinite campus
Grading Policy:
Students can earn 5 elective credits for this class and will receive a letter grade that is calculated into the student’s GPA. Students will be graded daily by using the following criteria:
· Attending class daily and on time
· Coming prepared with the necessary materials
· Working (staying on task) the entire class period
· Completing class assignments which include weekly grade updates through Infinite Campus, progress monitoring tasks and attending tutor time when necessary.
Weekly grades will be recorded in Infinite Campus.
NOTE: If your student is not making effective use of class time, I will be contacting parents to discuss further options.
