GET YOUR FERRITIN/IRON CHECKED

If you have not had your ferritin levels checked since track season please get them tested. It is a good idea to have your ferritin levels checked once after the track season, and once after XC season(at least two times/year - more if you are vegetarian).  You can "self-refer" and pay at any Boulder Community lab (like at the lab in the Foothills Community Hospital or the lab on South Boulder road across from Angevine).  It costs $38 to get your iron and ferritin checked (codes and info on above image)

A ferritin level of 30 is the minimum number acceptable for adequate performance for a distance runner. I also recommend that every athlete on the team be taking an iron supplement that works for them. Please come talk to me or email if you have questions.  I suggest iron bisglycinate as one of the easiest to absorb forms and gentle on the stomach.
