Notice the differences in the individual homes in relation to the background. The homes/village is less distinct in the painting on the left; the village "sinks into" the background, whereas with the painting on the right, the village and homes are more distinct. Where is the narrative in each painting focused? on the panoramic or the particular? Where is the viewer's eye directed or drawn? What determines "movement" between the larger picture and the more particular images?
