BHS Ultimate
2023-2024 Season
The Wave & Flower Power Teams
Ultimate Club at Boulder High School
Ultimate (sometimes called Ultimate Frisbee) Club at Boulder High School is a sport that practices and competes in Fall and Spring. It is not a CHSAA Sport but instead it is a BVSD Category 3 Club run by students. Our teams play in leagues and tournaments sanctioned by USA Ultimate (USAU). Tournaments and league games are coordinated by Altitude Youth Ultimate (AYU) . Note that AYU is USAU's official State-Based Organization for youth ultimate in the state of Colorado.
In the Fall, we practice and compete as a mixed team (The Wave). In the Spring, we compete as two teams - one (The Wave) in the Open Division and one (Flower Power) in the Girls' Division. All of our teams are competitive during league and tournaments, but we welcome new players with no previous experience. We take pride in our teams being fun and inclusive for all our players. For more details about Ultimate club, view the information below. See our Practice Info page and the Game Schedule page too.
Note: Our Mixed Division team (in Fall) and Open Division team (in Spring) used to be called "HULA" until Fall 2021.
FALL Season - ONE TEAM:
WAVE is our team name and ALL GENDERS are on this team in the Fall (Before Fall 2021, our Mixed Division team and Open Division teams were named HULA.)
SPRING Season - TWO TEAMS*:
WAVE is also the name of our Spring Open Division team and is generally for students who identify as boys or are boy-matching players during play, but we compete against schools who only have one team that includes players of all genders
FLOWER POWER is our Spring Girls Division team comprised of students who identify as girls or are girl-matching players during on-field play
*Please note all students are welcome in our program during both seasons regardless of their gender identities. The division descriptions/titles are those used by our governing body. Our club makes space for all students and their identities in both Fall and Spring

Equipment Needed
There is minimal equipment needed to play Ultimate. We have many discs so players do not need to own or bring one to practice. For health and safety reasons, we ask players not to share water bottles, etc.
Here are some things to bring to practice & games. See Practice Info page and the Game Schedule page for more details.
CLEATS. Ultimate is similar to soccer; a player has to be able to run and change direction. Cleats are essential to avoid slipping. Play It Again Sports, Dick's Sporting Goods and other places will have soccer cleats for sale. In addition to soccer cleats, softball cleats, lacrosse cleats, and football cleats also work. Often lacrosse/football cleats work well as they have cleats on the toe. Metal spikes/cleats are not allowed for safety reasons.
Athletic clothing for ALL weather conditions. Colorado weather is highly variable and we play outside so it is good to be prepared. :)
Water bottle filled with water - we recommend at least 32 ounces (1 quart)
A white shirt and a dark shirt for scrimmages during each practice. Also good to bring these for games in addition to bringing the team jerseys.
