Varsity Assistant for the Boys - Matthew Lay:
Throughout the four years of his undergraduate studies, Matthew Lay played Division II soccer for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where he double majored in English Literature and History, earning Academic All-Conference honors for the majority of his career. After acquiring an MA from UCCS and another from CU Boulder, Lay returned to BHS, his alma mater, as a language arts and history instructor. Since the onset of his career at Broomfield High, Lay has worked as an assistant to Coach Davidson, focusing primarily on defensive tactics as well as team strength and conditioning. From 1998-2001, Coach Lay was a member of the Eagles’ varsity soccer program, helping the team to win the school’s first soccer state championship in the 1999 season. When asked about his return to the soccer program, now as a coach, Lay asserted, “The opportunity to work with perhaps the most tactically and technically talented coaching staff in Colorado high school sports, along with the prospect of creating the new and bolstering the already well-established traditions of the BHS soccer program from which I have grown, are the two foundational reasons why I am both thankful and pleased to be a member of the Eagles’ soccer program. While this tradition places ardent focus on strengthening players’ capacities on the pitch, it simultaneously aims to augment its players’ character – something which I credit to the constitution so many current and former players, as well as my own.” Away from the Eagles’ soccer program, Coach Lay enjoys international travel and time with friends and family.
Junior Varsity Head Coach and Varsiry Assistant for the Boys -Jack Perkins:
Jack Perkins first joined the Broomfield soccer program as our C Team coach in 2021 and took over the JV team the following year. After moving to the JV level, Perkins became more involved with the varsity program and was proud to have assisted in the title run of the 2023 season. After playing soccer at Legend High School in Parker - partially under Coach Hindman’s tutelage - Perkins attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and minors in Sociology and Leadership. He began coaching soccer at the club level when he was 19 and pursued a career in the field. In 2025, in addition to his role at Broomfield High School, Perkins will coach the Boys U17 MLS Next 2 team through Broomfield Soccer Club. He currently holds a USSF C License and is aiming for a B License. Away from the sidelines, Perkins enjoys spending quality time with his family: his wife, Aimée, and his almost year-old puppy, Hazel. He hits the links with buddies if he has a free afternoon, but his golf game isn’t worth anything to write the pro tour about, so he sticks to soccer.

She played all four years under Jim Davidson and was an All-American in 2014 before continuing on her career at the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Wyoming. At the culmination of her collegiate career she found that she was missing the competitive atmosphere and community that soccer always provided. After reaching out to Jim, she joined his staff as a volunteer assistant coach with the Varsity Girls Soccer team in 2021. While Brittney never brought home a State Championship for herself she takes pride in being a part of the Girls State Championship team as a part of the coaching staff in 2021. Brittany is in the Broomfield High School Hall of Fame and loves having the opportunity to remain in the community as a coach. After teaching elementary school for five years, Brittney and her husband recently welcomed a daughter into their family. Most of her free time is spent with her family and she always looks forward to the summer months when she can be found glamping somewhere in Wyoming.
