BHS Wrestling practices are M-F, at 4:00-6:30pm in the BHS Field House.
Parents and guardians are a vital component of any wrestling program and can heavily impact a program either positively or negatively. We encourage parent volunteering, and although parents are not permitted to watch practice sessions, we urge you to make an effort to attend all competitions and other team events. The more support our athletes have, the more driven to succeed they will become. The coaching staff will respond to questions or concerns as quickly as possible via email or phone. Thank you for your support of Boulder High wrestling!
Nutrition: Help your athlete eat nutritious meals and discourage junk food.
Wrestlers need high protein, low-carb diets, with lots of vegetables each meal. Good sources of protein include chicken breasts, bison, fish, and steaks. Good vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, onions, peppers, asparagus, and spinach. Pastas can be good for quick energy on the day of a tournament or after a weigh-in, but should not be eaten daily. Avoid processed foods and most breads. For additional nutritional guidelines, visit www.choosemyplate.gov.
Sleep: Maintain a curfew and ensure sufficient sleep.
Organization and discipline will help keep a wrestler’s mind sharp through the season. Regular bedtimes and a minimum 6 hours of sleep (8 preferred) are strongly encouraged. This rest is crucial for the athletes’ success given the intensive training throughout the season.
Academics: Talk to your child about his/her grades and school.
Being a student athlete is more than a full-time job. Help encourage your athletes’ success by sharing the same interests they find in class. Grades are the number one priority, and encouragement during stressful times of the school year will go a long way in supporting academic excellence.
Attendance: Plan to attend the dual meets and tournaments!
Throughout tournaments, Boulder High needs a consistent parent base to root for the team and help provide food and drinks to keep their energy up during bouts.
Support: Positively support his/her efforts in school and athletics.
Whether they win or lose, our wrestlers will be giving it their all throughout the season. Make sure to always encourage and be proud of their performance no matter the outcome.
Go Panthers: Cheer during matches.
Let yourself enjoy the sport respectfully and help cheer on the Panthers!
Off-Season Training: Encourage additional conditioning year around.
State champions are won during the season but created in the off-season. The more work an athlete can put in during the summer and fall - particularly through wrestling camp attendance - the better their performance will be in the regular season.
Talk to your wrestler while he or she is on the bench during dual meets.
When a meet starts, all wrestlers are required to stay with the team and maintain a professional appearance until all matches are finished.
Interfere with the preparation of your wrestler before a match.
Every wrestler has their own unique warm-up routine to prepare themselves mentally and physically. The best way to help them get ready is by giving them space and letting them ask their coaches if they have any questions.
Openly criticize wrestlers, coaches, or officials.
If a coach, official, or wrestler makes a mistake or bad call, please maintain composure and allow the issue to be handled on the mat. This is not an Olympic competition. Officials will make some bad calls that may cost your wrestler the match, but the coaches will handle the error in a judicious way at the proper time. We respectfully request that parents model the professional behavior we expect from our athletes.
Shout moves or coach from the sidelines during a match.
Wrestlers will be looking to their corner and coaches for strategic advice and game plans. Please refrain from complicating that trust between athlete and coach.
Wash the event team warm-up top or bottom (although washing the singlet is okay if the care instructions are meticulously followed).
Ask to take your child home early from a tournament before the team dismissal time(s) unless in the case of special circumstances or emergency.
View the list of volunteer opportunities below. If you are interested in any of the positions below or have questions, please contact any of the coaches.
Help maintain the website and discuss with the Coaches ongoing suggestions for improvement.
Help administer finances (team accountant), serve as a central point of contact for team communication (organize team table) , and be our general “Go-To” Panther Parent for all questions regarding team activities, fundraising, tournaments, etc.
Filming matches and uploading videos to an online platform to help improve all team members improve their understanding of their movement and help build interest in the program.
Set up a team table during each competitive event with waters, sandwiches, snacks, fruits, Gatorades, and other items to help the wrestlers keep their energy levels high and ensure they have what they need for success. This also provides a place for parents and wrestlers to get a break from the gym.
Seek out opportunities and serve as adult coordinator for all fundraisers to help the team secure funds for supplies like soap, new equipment, and future traveling team camps.
