Biography:
I began swimming competitively at the age of 9 after moving from Iowa to Breckenridge, CO- it was either try out for the swim team (I had always loved swimming) or join the ski team- I didn’t have a clue how to ski! I did learn how to ski, and was on the swim and ski teams throughout 4th & 5th grades….only in Colorado! After moving back to Iowa at age 11, I joined the local YMCA team. I made some great friends who I’m still in touch with now! Swim team is the best way to make friends….in my opinion☺I was Iowa All-State for 4 years in high school and team co-captain my senior year. I got a taste for coaching during my junior year when I was side-lined for the first half of the season with severe anemia and pneumonia. To stay in touch with and stay close to my teammates, I came to daily practices- my coach wanted me to make good use of my time, so I was enlisted to help out the newer more novice swimmers….I was hooked!
After graduating from Marshalltown High School in Iowa, I went off to swim for the next 4 years for the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. I set school records in relays, the 50 free and both backstroke events. I made the Mid-East Conference team all 4 years and was voted as team co-captain my senior year. I loved swimming in college and I truly believe that I was a successful student because of my commitment to the team. I graduated in 4 years with a B.A. in Community Health Education. Immediately after graduating from UNI, Chad and I got married and we moved to Greeley 3 weeks later so that I could pursue my Masters degree in Sport Management from the University of Northern Colorado. While I was in grad school I coached the Eaton Red Waves USA Swim Team.
We moved to Broomfield in 1997. I began coaching for the Broomfield girls swim team as an assistant in 1998. That quickly followed with the 1999 boys season. I took over the head coaching position in 2000. So 2026 begins my 28th year of coaching with Broomfield- my 55th season! From 1999-2013 I coached for the Broomfield Swim and Tennis Center Sharks- a team in the Boulder Valley Summer Swim League. I’ve been the BVSSL President since 2013.
I met my husband in high school. He was the team manager of the girls swim team my senior year- but we waited until the season was over to start dating:) Chad and I have 2 awesome kids: Lane and Kaylee. They’re both swimmers….they’ve tried their hand at other sports, but....like their mother, they landed firmly on swimming. We’ve also got 2 dogs - Theo (a rescue who thinks he’s a cat) and Lulu (a goofy chocolate lab). I am the oldest of 3 kids- brother Patrick & the youngest is Elizabeth, who was also a swimmer.
