4th Grade Homework Information
The 4th grade teachers truly believe in developing the whole child; educationally, socially, and emotionally. With this in mind, we believe that playing outside, spending time with family, having an extra curricular activity, etc. are just as important as independent practice of each day's studies. This type of social and emotional development is also an important learning experience that will help your child thrive. We also work really hard throughout the day and we recognize they deserve a break to mentally prepare for the next day.
We also believe it is important for the students to have responsibilities and to independently follow through with those responsibilities. As well as take ownership when the responsibilities haven't been completed. Thank you for supporting us with this goal for your student.
NO HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED ON THE WEEKENDS (there may be exceptions to this rule, ie: unfinished work to complete at home).
Below is information explaining different expectations for different types of homework.
- Your student is responsible for reading each day for a minimum of 20 minutes. This is SO important as it continues to build their reading skills and easiest homework to be able to support at home.
- Homework is sent home as we feel it is needed for extra practice.
- When homework is not assigned, your student needs to practice their multiplication and division math facts (1-12) for 10 minutes. They can practice these facts however they prefer. For example, they could use flashcards, online resources, math games, etc.
- Depending on what we are working on, many students will need extra time to complete an assignment or any work that is incomplete from that day will need to be taken home to work on and returned the next day.
Logging Reading and Math Fact Practice
- Your student is responsible for recording their reading in their planner. They will need to fill out their reading information at the bottom of the current date's column (book title, pages, etc). They will need to make sure they find time to ask you to sign it. This is our way of holding them accountable for not only their daily reading, but also for practicing their math facts when homework isn't assigned.
- Your student is responsible for turning in any homework, assignment, permission slip, etc on it's due date.
