Hello BVCS Families!

Next week, our elementary students will begin MAP assessments. While the word assessment can sometimes sound like it’s all about scores, our purpose is much bigger: we want to understand where each student is starting so we can help them grow.

These beginning-of-the-year assessments give our teachers an important baseline. They help us identify what students already know, where they are ready to be challenged, and where they may need additional support. That information allows our teachers to be even more intentional as they plan instruction and respond to the individual needs of their students.

And this is just the beginning! We will assess students again in February and May, giving us meaningful checkpoints throughout the year. Rather than looking at one score in isolation, we’ll be able to see the story of each student’s growth and progress over time.

As parents, you can help by making sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and comes to school ready to simply do their best. There’s no need for extra studying or pressure—we want these assessments to give us an accurate picture of where students are right now.

At BVCS, our goal is never simply to produce strong test scores. We want to know our students well, teach them well, and help them grow academically, spiritually, and personally. These assessments are one of the tools that help us do just that.
