ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Hannah Avila, Fr.-Cheer
Hannah started Cheer as a freshman this year with no prior Cheer experience. She has come in, taken all instructions and critiques, and flourished!
Hannah is an example of a hard-working member of our Cheer team. Statistically, she has had the highest completion rate of summer workouts and always has a smile on her face. She makes suggested adjustments, and it’s clear she works on them before the next practice. Most importantly, Hannah has learned to trust her Bases, trust her teammates, and trust herself. Her work ethic, coachability, positive attitude, and the smile she brings every day!
Congratulations, Hannah!

You Can't Always Choose What Happens. You Can Choose How You Respond.
In the last newsletter, we talked about THE NEXT PLAY.
But what happens when there isn't a scoreboard?
What happens when there isn't a referee watching?
What happens when you're tired, frustrated, disappointed, overlooked, or simply don't feel like giving your best?
THE LITTLE CHOICES BECOME THE BIG CHARACTER
Championship character isn't built only during big games.
It's built in the small moments:
· Showing up. When you would rather stay home.
· Listening. When you think you already know the answer.
· Encouraging. When someone else is struggling.
· Taking responsibility. When it's easier to blame someone else.
· Working hard. When nobody is watching.
· Doing the right thing. Even when nobody would know if you didn't.
These choices may seem small. But over time, small choices become habits—and habits become character. Because athletics isn't separate from our faith.
CHOOSING CHRIST
Scripture reminds us that our choices matter: Colossians 3:17:
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”
That changes the way we look at athletics.
· Practice matters.
· Games matter.
· School matters.
· Relationships matter.
· How we respond to adversity matters.
· Even the seemingly insignificant moments matter.
Athletics is one place where we have the opportunity to live out our faith.
· The next play will come.
· The next game will come.
· The next challenge will come.
A LESSON FOR PARENTS
As parents, we naturally want our children to succeed.
We celebrate the wins, the awards, the starting positions, the great performances, and the accomplishments.
But perhaps one of the greatest gifts we can give our athletes is helping them understand that who they are becoming matters more than what they accomplish.
Ask questions like:
“What kind of teammate were you today?”
“Did you give your best?”
“Did you encourage someone?”
“How did you respond when things didn't go your way?”
“What choice are you proud of today?”
Because our goal isn't simply to raise successful athletes. It's to help raise young men and women of character.

College Recruiting Corner
But choosing a college is about more than finding a place to play.
Who is going to mentor your child?
Will they encourage and strengthen their faith?
Will they challenge them academically and develop their critical thinking?
Will they help them use athletics as an opportunity to discover their identity in Christ—not in their performance?
Those are questions worth asking before choosing a college.
College athletics can be an incredible opportunity—but the goal isn't simply to find a team.
The goal is to find the right environment for your student-athlete to grow—in faith, academics, character, and competition.
Set up a time to visit with Coach Snelgrove about your potential college athletics opportunities. drews@bvcs.org
Athletes and parents are encouraged to reach out—even if you’re just starting to explore your options.
RECRUITING REMINDER:
Don't choose a college because they recruited you. Choose a college because it is the right fit for you.

If you missed the Seminar, you can review the slides here: 26-27 BVCS College Recruiting Seminar.

Appropriate conduct is expected at games, practices, and team group chats.
Practices are closed unless communicated otherwise.
Playing time decisions are made by coaches and are not discussed before or after games/practices. Questions about playing time should be directed to the Athletic Director through an appointment.
Transportation: Parent drivers may be needed throughout the season. See team parents for more information.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
ATTENTION SENIORS: Graduating seniors especially current/former athletes and those who love sports, the NCOA is looking for officials! Contact Little.A@monet.k12.ca.us for more information.
