Our goal with this part of the Friday @ 5:00 is to give you, as the parent(s), resources to have conversations about Jesus, with your family.
Today in Chapel, we talked about Matthew 11:28-30 with our focus being on repenting (turning from sin) and faith (turning to Jesus). We encouraged our students, from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade, not to hold on to their burdens, but instead give them to Jesus as He invites us into the Family of God. Pastor Jeff invited students to come up front and hold some of his heavy theology books to help drive home the message of what it's like when we try to live this life on our own strenght. Jesus tells us to come and find rest in Him. This is not a rest of ceasing work, but rather, it is a rest of doing good work. Jesus has called us to do good works that He has planned for us. When we join the family of God, we get to be part of the ministry God is doing. This gives us meaningful, abundant lives full of glorifying God (1 Cor. 10:31). Our theme verse, Philiippians 2:12-13, Paul tells us to work out our salvaiton with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in us. As followers of Jesus, we are to lay our burdens down at the feet of God so that we may pick up the good works of loving Him, loving others and making disciples.
Take some time this weekend, to encourage your students to spend time reading the Bible, praying and attending Church. Ask your child(ren) what are the good works that God has planned for you? Tell them what you see God doing in their lives. Have a great weekend BVCS Family!
