Merry Christmas from the BVC Athletics Family to Yours
We hope you are able to enjoy time away to relax and celebrate with family and friends, rejoicing in the birth of our Savior this Christmas season.
For our coaches, Christmas break can look a little different. Whether they’ve just finished their season, are in the midst of it, or are preparing for the season ahead, this time often includes a mix of family moments, reflection, planning, and preparation. Even during the holidays, their dedication to our Christian student-athletes continues.
You may not know this: the work by each coach doesn’t stop when school pauses for Christmas. At Big Valley Christian, some coaches have just finished their season, some are still competing, and others are already preparing for a season that begins in January. While their schedules may look different, their commitment to our Christian Student-Athletes remains the same.
Even during Christmas break, coaches are meeting, planning, communicating, and praying for their teams.
Seasons Ending
For coaches whose seasons have recently concluded, Christmas break is a time of rest, reflection, and gratitude. They look back on lessons learned, growth achieved, and relationships built. Even after the final game, many coaches continue to mentor students, evaluate the program, and prayerfully prepare for next year’s season.
Seasons Continuing
For coaches currently in season, Christmas break is often filled with practices, games, travel, watching videos, scouting, and preparation. These coaches make sacrifices during the holidays, balancing family, faith, and team responsibilities to ensure that Christian Student-Athletes are supported, prepared, and encouraged both on and off the field or court.
Seasons Beginning
For coaches preparing to start their season in January, Christmas break is a season of planning. Practice plans are written, games set, goals to be implemented, and time is spent praying over potential Christian-Student-Athletes and the upcoming season. Long before competition begins, these coaches are investing in the foundation of a Christ-centered athletic experience.
A Word of Gratitude
Our coaches serve with humility and purpose. They give their time, energy, and hearts to develop athletes who grow in character, discipline, teamwork, and faith. We are deeply thankful for their commitment and for the partnership of parents who support and encourage them throughout the year.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23
In this verse, Paul reflects the heart behind coaching at Big Valley Christian—serving with excellence, guided by faith, centered on Christ, striving for Excellence.
Merry Christmas from our family to yours.

BVCS Attendance Policy
ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES FOR GAMES AND PRACTICES
A BVCS Student must be in class at least 4 COMPLETE periods of a 7-period day. If your team leaves school early during the sixth or seventh period, it is not considered attendance for that period. Exceptions will be made for medical and dental appointments and family emergencies. If a student leaves school during the day due to illness, they are not allowed to return to school to participate in a game or practice, regardless of the number of classes attended, unless given special permission by the Director of Athletics.
When a student-athlete knows they are going on vacation, they should notify their coach immediately. All vacations should be planned around the sports schedule, especially for major events (such as games, tournaments, playoffs, and camps). A vacation is an unexcused absence from practices or games; when the student athlete returns, he or she is not guaranteed their previous position (i.e., on the starting team, playing time, etc.). Remember, time away from the team can be a determining factor for making a team if tryouts are needed. Coaches can excuse these items if they are pre-arranged well in advance (before the season begins), but that is at the coach’s discretion.
If the student-athlete attends school, they must attend practice, even if they do not suit up.
Players may be required to practice or participate in games on weekends and during school vacations. These practices are very important, and players/parents are asked to plan around them and attend.
Please keep class attendance and in-class time in mind when evaluating student-athlete absences.

Charles Hoffman
Big Valley Christian School Welcomes New Strength & Conditioning Coach, Charles Hoffman
Big Valley Christian School is pleased to introduce Charles Hoffman as the new Strength & Conditioning Coach for BVCS Athletics.
Charles brings over 14 years of experience training youth and high school athletes and is the founder of First Team Fitness. Coach Hoffman holds numerous certifications from NASM, allowing him to safely and effectively train athletes across all sports.
A U.S. Army veteran, Charles brings discipline, leadership, and a Christ-centered approach to developing the whole athlete—mind, body, and character. His coaching focuses on building strong, fast, and resilient competitors while reducing injury risk and promoting long-term growth.
Charles is married and a father of two college-aged children, including a collegiate volleyball athlete. His experience supporting student-athletes provides him with valuable insight into the balance among academics, athletics, and personal development.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
