Hello BVCS Families:
One of the greatest privileges we have at Big Valley Christian School is that we get to do more than educate children...we get to point them to Christ.
Being a Christ-centered, distinctively Christian school means that our faith isn’t reserved for Bible time or Chapel. It shapes the way we teach, the way we lead, the way we respond to challenges, and the way we encourage our students to see themselves and the world around them. Our desire is that every child grows academically while also learning what it means to know God, trust Him, and faithfully follow Him.
This week in Chapel, our students continued learning about David through our theme, “David — Shepherd, King, Servant.” Before David ever became king, he was a shepherd. He was faithful in the seemingly small responsibilities God had placed before him—the “small potatoes.” David’s heart was being prepared long before he knew what God had planned for his future.
What a wonderful lesson for our children—and for all of us.
We want our students to understand that faithfulness matters. How they treat a classmate matters. How they respond to a teacher matters. The effort they give to an assignment matters. Choosing honesty, kindness, humility, and obedience in the small moments matters because God is at work in those moments, too.
Throughout this year, we will continue returning to one important question: “Who sits on the throne in your heart?” Our prayer is that our students increasingly learn to answer that question with their lives by wanting what God wants more than simply what they want.
That conversation doesn’t have to end when Chapel does. This weekend, consider asking around the dinner table or in the car:
“Do we want what God wants more than what we want?”
These are the conversations that remind me why Christian education matters so deeply. School and home have the opportunity to partner together—not simply in raising strong students, but in nurturing young people whose hearts and minds are being shaped by the truth of God’s Word.
Thank you for entrusting your children to us and for partnering with us in this important work. It is a privilege to walk alongside your family.
In Christ,
Kris Giannosa
