What a way to open the 2026 season!
Ben Kirchner Sr. helped lead the Big Valley Christian Lions to a victory over the Beyer Patriots in our season opener, 55-22.
Kirchner rushed 22 times for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns!
Ben’s physical running, toughness, and determination helped set the tone for the Lions’ first win of the season.

Helping to Learn, Reset, and Move Forward: GOOD and the BAD
Every athlete makes mistakes.
A fumble. A missed shot. A turnover. A strikeout. A missed assignment. A poor decision. Sometimes, even a tough game.
The question isn't whether our athletes will make mistakes. The question is what they will do after the mistake.
Sports psychology teaches an important principle through Acceptance and Commitment: athletes don't have to ignore disappointment or pretend a mistake didn't happen. They can acknowledge it, learn from it, refocus on what they can control, and commit to the next action.
Different coaches call it different things; some might simply call it:
THE NEXT PLAY.
Recognize it.
What happened?
Learn from it.
What can I do differently?
Reset.
The play is over.
Respond.
What does the next play require from me?
Then—move forward.
A LESSON FOR PARENTS
As parents, we have an important role in helping our athletes develop this mindset.
Sometimes our athletes already know exactly what they did wrong. They don't need us to replay the mistake for them.
They need to know:
“I'm still proud of you.”
“What did you learn?”
“What will you do next?”
We don't want to raise athletes who are afraid to make mistakes. We want to help develop young men and women who can make mistakes, learn from them, correct them, and keep going.
Because that isn't just an athletic skill.
That's a life skill.
PRESSING FORWARD
Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:13–14:
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…”
Paul wasn't saying the past didn't matter. He was teaching us not to become trapped by it.
We learn from what happened, but we don't have to live there.
At BVCS Athletics, we want our athletes to understand:
· Your last play does not determine your next play.
· Mistakes will happen. Disappointments will come.
· But with humility, perseverance, and God's help, we can learn, grow, and press forward.
MAKE IT. LEARN FROM IT. RESET. PLAY THE NEXT PLAY.
“I press on.” — Philippians 3:14

College Recruiting Corner
Freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior—take the first step.
Whether you’re just beginning to explore playing college sports, already being contacted by coaches, or simply wondering what opportunities may be available, Coach Snelgrove is available to help you navigate the process.
A short conversation can help you better understand:
What it takes to become college-recruitable
NCAA, NAIA, and community college opportunities
What you should be doing now to prepare
How to research colleges and athletic programs
Recruiting timelines and next steps
How academics, athletics, and character all factor into the process
Set up a time to visit with Coach Snelgrove about your potential college athletics opportunities:
drews@bvcs.org
Athletes and parents are encouraged to reach out—even if you’re just starting to explore your options.
RECRUITING REMINDER:
Don't choose a college because they recruited you. Choose a college because it is the right fit for you.
BVCS ATHLETICS | Don't wait to be recruited. Learn how to become recruitable.
If you missed the Seminar, you can review the slides here: 26-27 BVCS College Recruiting Seminar.

Appropriate conduct is expected at games, practices, and team group chats.
Practices are closed unless communicated otherwise.
Playing time decisions are made by coaches and are not discussed before or after games/practices. Questions about playing time should be directed to the Athletic Director through an appointment.
Transportation: Parent drivers may be needed throughout the season. See team parents for more information.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
ATTENTION SENIORS: Graduating seniors especially current/former athletes and those who love sports, the NCOA is looking for officials! Contact Little.A@monet.k12.ca.us for more information.
