SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Athletes: We have a service opportunity at the BVG Neighborhood Sunday, 8/30, after the service 10:15-12:30. This service will welcome people in our neighborhood onto campus and we can represent the BVCS ministry by running a fun kids water game. If you are interested in serving, sign up at this link. It will count towards service hours. I'll be there and if you do not have other church obligations that day, I hope to see you there! Let me know if you have any questions.

Last week, we looked at Nehemiah and the people who came together to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Each person had a role, a gift, and a part in the work.
This week, I want to take that one step further.
Building something meaningful requires more than showing up. It requires ownership.
At Big Valley Christian, we don't want our students simply to participate in athletics. We want them to understand that their effort, attitude, relationships, and choices are all opportunities to Worship in Action.
· Every practice is an opportunity to grow.
· Every competition is an opportunity to respond with character.
· Every difficult moment is an opportunity to persevere.
· Every teammate is an opportunity to serve.
· And every gift God has given us is an opportunity to honor Him.
That is why we continue to emphasize:
Character. Student. Athlete. The order matters.
We want to develop excellent athletes, but we are ultimately preparing young men and women who know who they are, whose they are, and what they are called to do.
Parents, coaches, teachers, and administrators all have a role in that process. We may each have a different responsibility, but we are building toward the same goal.
Our goal is to build people who will make a difference for Christ.

College Recruiting Corner
BVCS College Recruiting 2026–27
Big Valley Christian is excited to help our student-athletes and families better understand the college recruiting process. Our 2026–27 College Recruiting Seminar focused on one simple message: “Don’t wait to be recruited. Learn how to become recruitable.”
This seminar is to help athletes understand the college athletics landscape, NCAA and NAIA eligibility, academic requirements, recruiting changes, roster considerations, and the different pathways available—including NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NCCAA, and California Community Colleges.
Most importantly, athletes can learn how to take ownership of their recruiting process through practical steps such as building a player profile, creating useful video, identifying schools that are the right fit, communicating professionally with coaches, following up, and building relationships.
Parents can be informed on how to support their athlete without taking ownership of the process.
Our goal is simple: replace rumor with facts, confusion with a plan, and doubt with confidence.
Get eligible. Get better. Get seen. Get connected. Find the right fit.

UPDATE: NCAA Division D-III has a proposal for the "5 years to play 5" eligibility model was submitted by many conferences, including the Ohio Athletic Conference is on the official legislative docket for the January 2027 NCAA D3 Meeting.
As we begin the season, here are important tools, reminders, and expectations to help ensure a successful year.
BVCS Lions Athletic App: Download the athletic app (separate from the school app) and star your team's schedule.
No star = no automatic texts.
Team Communication: Each team will use a third-party communication app.
Volunteer Opportunities: Sign up through Helper-Helper.

At BVCS, athletics is an extension of our mission. We compete against Christian and non-Christian schools, and we are called to be a light, encourage others, and represent Christ well.
Appropriate conduct is expected at games, practices, and team group chats.
Practices are closed unless communicated otherwise.
Playing time decisions are made by coaches and are not discussed before or after games/practices. Questions about playing time should be directed to the Athletic Director through an appointment.
Transportation: Parent drivers may be needed throughout the season. See team parents for more information.
Team Store: Available for high school teams only.

Workout Information
BVCS Strength and Conditioning: Weight Room
The purpose of the Strength & Conditioning Program is to:
1. Help student-athletes safely build strength, mobility, and overall fitness
2. Support athletic performance while reducing the risk of injury
3. Provide consistent, age-appropriate instruction in proper lifting technique
4. Encourage discipline, confidence, and healthy lifelong fitness habits
The program is open to:
Ø Current BVCS Christian-Student-Athletes who have identified as a participant in a current year season of high school athletics
Ø BVCS students who are currently rostered on a sports team
Ø BVCS athletic teams during their competitive seasons
Participation may require approval from the Athletic Director and/or Head Coach to ensure the program best supports each student’s needs.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.

Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.

Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
