One of the most important composers in the history of music was Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach developed the formal rules of music theory that formed the foundation of western music. One of the amazing things about him was that he inscribed every piece of music he wrote with the letters S.D.G. which stands for Soli Deo Gloria, or to God alone be the glory. Every piece that he wrote was written to glorify God. What a great reminder! Everything we do should be for the glory of God.
"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul."
- J. S. Bach
Many people like to ask the question, "what is the meaning of life?" For Christians, the answer is not a mystery. The meaning of my life and the meaning of yours is to bring God glory. In fact, everything that exists was created for this singular purpose. The glory of God is what everything should be about. In the movie Chariots of Fire, Eric Liddell's father tells him this:
"You can glorify God by peeling a potato if you peel it to perfection."
Everything we do should be to the best of our ability so that we can glorify God through it. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." This is such a great reminder to do everything we do with excellence. Everything we do should be for God and when we are successful we should give all of the credit to God. It's all about him!
Here are some questions to discuss as a family:
What things are you doing with excellence for the Lord?
What are some practical ways that you can give God glory in your life?
Recently in US History students were talking about imperialism and comparing the way we spread the Gospel today with the way people talked about it in the context of imperial expansion. They also talked about how God was able to use the events and mistakes of the past to still bring about good in history.

by Grade Level:
This year our chapel theme is “Love Like Jesus” and we will be looking at the life of Jesus in the Gospels. Our theme verse is 1 John 4:19 which says, “We love because he first loved us.” As we spend time with Jesus in the Word this year, our prayer is that each and every student would live out their faith and show the love of Christ to others.
Our HS & 6th Grade Chaplains got together to do some interviews with our students about Christmas!
