This Week in Athletics
Athlete of the Week
Cohen Boone
Cohen Boone is in his second season with varsity boys volleyball and in our scrimmage on Thursday against Escalon HS he had 11 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs and 1 block. Cohen is one of our team captains and his leadership is going to be invaluable as we defend our title as league champs for another year.

F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online
You will receive an email from Home Campus letting you know they are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the athletic office that you have completed your part and we are the ones that mark them cleared. If you don't receive your email, contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
You cannot participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season do we have to have new one?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.

This Quarter's Coach Profile: Miles Scott
If you find yourself in the Big Valley Christian High School gym on a winter night, there is a chance you will see our boy’s varsity basketball team playing, and there’s a better than average chance they will be winning. One of the main reasons for their success is their coach, Miles Scott.
Miles started playing basketball in the 3rd grade, but it wasn’t until college that he found his talent for coaching. He had finished his eligibility as a player at Holy Names University but still had one year left until he graduated. The head coach asked him to be a student assistant, and this would start a coaching path that has led him to BVCS as well as 7 years as an AAU coach. Miles says one of his goals as a coach is to help players see the bigger purpose and not get caught up in their personal attributes. He wants them to be able to sacrifice individual goals to help the team. To him, the best thing about coaching is watching players come together and see what God is doing with the team and becoming a brotherhood. It has also been a blessing for him to see BVCS players invite players from the other team to pray together, even from public schools.
When asked about his favorite coaching memory he said it was difficult to pick just one. He has so many memories and long term relationships with many players he used to coach, even some that are now adults themselves.
When Miles is not coaching you can find him leading junior high and high school students as one of the P.E. teachers as well being the director of boys discipleship where he is developing spiritual relationships with the 7th-12 grade boys by starting Bible studies, prayer groups and getting the families involved.
Miles’ favorite hobby is to spend time with his family: his wife Serina and his daughters, Arabella, age 9, and Sophia, age 5. He enjoys going to the park, playing basketball and trying new things with them.
If Miles had to pick an assistant coach from the Bible he said it would be Moses, as Moses may have not been the best speaker, but he depended on God to do what he needed to do. Even when it wasn’t easy, Moses trusted in God. Miles said that it is hard to pick a single section from the Bible as his favorite verse, but if he had to select one, Proverbs 3:5-6 is something he tries to live by, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

We have recently had some issues with our app however they seem to be fixed! However, you may still not be able to access it. Our app provider is saying that updating your phone or re-downloading the app should reset it.
This is your one stop shop for athletics and it will notify you also of any changes to game times, locations as well as keep you in the loop on all things athletic happening on BVCS campus. We encourage all families to download this to stay connected.
NOTE FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR:
Winter Spots are done! Boys basketball made it to the second round of playoffs for the first time in 15 years, Girls Soccer made it to the 1st round of play offs for the first time in 10 years. Our amazing wrestling team sent two young men to the Masters tournament, Sr. Kade Terzo and Jr. Nehemiah Stubbert, which is a feat only one other wrestler had ever done in school history before them. Sr. Kade Terzo made it to day 2 which is the farthest any BVCS wrestler has every gone making school history again. We are so proud of our teams and our athlete's for their hard work and for honoring the Lord and blessing our school with their efforts and abilities. Spring sports have all begun for HS and JH sports will start up in the next few weeks. We are excited about our new scoreboards and officially debuted them last week at our boys home basketball games. Boys Volleyball will get to continue to enjoy them this season as well as JH boys basketball and volleyball. Keep up the good work and remember it's all worship! Romans 12:1 "therefore I urge you brothers and sisters in view of Gods mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship"
