Growing up in East Tennessee, I was raised in a family who placed a high value on music and learning. I was and am a voracious reader, and this passion for reading fueled my love of learning and quickly thereafter, my love of teaching. When I began learning flute, I became enamored with the challenge, the drive, and the focus that learning an instrument inspires. I knew I had found my calling in teaching music.
I began teaching private flute lessons during my undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee. My private studio rapidly grew from five students to forty-five students plus three middle and high school flute choirs. During this time, I earned my Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Tennessee.
In 2012, my husband, Jeremy, and I moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where we spent eight years. Now, we live in Montpelier, and we absolutely love Vermont! I am so excited to be your band director at Barre Town School!
When I am not teaching, I enjoy doing anything outdoors with my husband, Jeremy, a Wildlife Biologist. I love to hike, bike, kayak, and swim. I also spend lots of time reading, knitting, weaving, painting, embroidering, and songwriting. Additionally, Jeremy and I are freelance musicians, so much of our time is spent making music together at home, with our friends, and out in our community.
