Lastly, students are working towards Accelerated Reader Certification. Certification emphasizes the quantity and the quality of the reading a student is doing. It mostly deals with the length of the material that students are choosing. When we encourage students to read for longer periods of time at one setting, we are preparing them for the reading concentration that is needed to successfully complete end-of-the-year assessment. The following levels of certification encourage the students to progress in their reading.
Levels of Certification
Ready Reader (Safari Jeep) = Read, pass quizzes, and earn 5 points.
Independent (Binnoculars) = Read and pass quizzes with a 1.2 book level and earn 10 points.
Rising Reader (Giraffe) = Read and pass quizzes with a 1.6 book level and earn 10 points.
Super Reader (Zebra) = Read 3 books and pass quizzes with a 2.0 book level, and at least 1 point each.
Advanced Reader (Tiger) = Read 3 books and pass quizzes with a 3.0 book level and at least 2 points each.
Star Reader (Elephant) = Read 3 books and pass quizzes with a 4.0 book level, and at least 4 points each.
Classic Reader (Lion) = Read 3 books and pass quizzes with a 6.0 book level, and at least 7 points each.
Honors (Monkey) = Read challenging books from the honor’s list, pass quizzes, and earn 100 points.
***Students may certify up to five times at all levels of certification. Depending on the student’s average and average reading level at the time he/she certifies, will determine if the student needs to advance to the next certification level.***
When individual students certify on their assigned level, his/her name goes on the AR Wall of Fame outside the cafeteria. Be sure to ask your child what certification level he/she is working toward.Parents may also stay informed on their child’s certification levels by going to the online site.
