Case Studies and College Fair - May 5 and May 6
Welcome to the Case Studies Program website for The Bush School, Northwest School, Rainier Scholars, SAAS, and University Prep. You'll find important information about the joint program on this page. The program follows the same format for both days: case studies followed by a college fair. Families are only required to attend one day and can select which location works best for them. Participants will work together in small groups, led by admissions counselors, to read applications and make admissions decisions as part of a mock admissions committee.

THE CASES
We will not be handing out printed copies of the cases. Please take the time to read the applications for the three students and the institution you'll represent (Fairbrook University) before the program. We encourage all students and families to either print or download the cases to a device prior to the event. Students and families will not be in the same classroom during the event, so they will not be able to share access. Please plan accordingly.

Case Studies Guidelines
While these are fictional applications, they are based on the experiences of real people. Just as admissions officers would never speak disparagingly about a student in an actual admissions committee, we expect participants to evaluate these candidates with care. Throughout this exercise, we invite you to share both the strengths and the challenges of each candidate’s profile, keeping in mind that people in the room may identify with one or more of the candidates.
Evaluating applicants can be complex and, as you will discover through this exercise, you will be faced with competing priorities. We invite you to disagree with one another, but we ask that you do so respectfully, speaking from your own experience.
The purpose of the Case Studies Program is to learn about the philosophy behind the college admissions process as a whole and what a student can and cannot control as they apply to college.
The College Fair at the end of the program will provide students with the opportunity to learn about individual colleges.
