College is WAY 🎉🎈 different. You get to choose the classes you want to take and the times you want to take them. If you don't like the teacher, you can drop the class and try another one. There are so many amazing classes from Cosmetology, Auto Repair, Ethnic Studies, Physical Therapy (Kinesiology), Sculpture, Anthropology, Astronomy, Oceanography, and so much more. Check out their 2022-23 class catalog.
If you want to start at BCC, you can for free thanks to California and Barstow's Promise to give everyone who wants to learn free college level education. This is a great way to be able to earn more in the future.
You can take classes at BCC while you are in high school with your principal's permission; learn more about concurrent enrollment here. Here is the actual dual enrollment form you would need to get filled out.
GOING TO BCC TO DO LIST:
If you want, you can start by meeting with a BCC Counselor to create an Education Plan. Here is their contact page.
Alternatively, if you just want to start taking classes without a plan from counselors, click to BCC's Getting Started page which asks you to.
sign up with www.openccc.org for BCC.
apply for the Fall or Spring semester on www.openccc.org next. There is a long form you will need to fill out that will ask a lot of questions. Ask a parent, teacher, or guidance counselor for help with this if you get stuck or confused.
Once you apply to BCC, you will get a BCC student ID number. Being a student at BCC comes with a lot of perks including access to a Chromebook if you need one. You also get a school email address with Barstow which makes you eligible to sign of for Amazon Prime for less. You will need your BCC student ID to register for classes on the BCC website. If you want priority registration, click to this BCC website for more info. Otherwise, just sign in to the BCC website with the username and password they gave you and register. If you need help, check out this video.
(Priority registration lets you sign up for the popular classes earlier before they get filled.)
Once you are registered for classes, you just need to show up prepared. Show them your Aztec PRIDE! :-) If you need more help contact their Welcome Resource Center at welcome@barstow.edu or 760-252-6796
If you end up wanting to go to a four year university, you will need to complete a Financial Aid request (FAFSA) for a bunch of money to help you pay for it.
