The following artwork was created by the 2nd semester Visual Arts and Yearbook Students of Piedmont Middle School. Each student submitted their favorite piece and an artist statement about their work. We hope you enjoy the work. I enjoyed this project a lot. I used a pencil and eraser to make this project. I chose this subject because it's my most detailed work and because I enjoyed making this project the most.

Alebrije Artwork
The main inspiration of my piece is that of which a documentary about dragons. I don't remember what it's called, but the basis from what I recall is some guy trying to reconstruct dragons from the features of animals. And in that documentary, it mentions something about how dragons were created from a combination of a serpent, big cat, and bird of prey. So I just used those features on my snake guy, applying some other features I fancy like that feather mane.

Face Man Pattern Art
I enjoyed this project because drawing the art piece was very relaxing and it was different from my other art pieces. I used dark coloring for the outlines and for the mouth I did a medium coloring and for the eyebrows I did a light coloring. I chose this subject because I wanted to try working on art and learning about it.

I chose this project because it was the one I had the most fun with this school year. I used a pencil and colored pencils to create a sketch of Disney character Stitch, from the movie "Lilo and Stitch." My favorite part of this project was how we were able to choose to draw any Disney character we wanted.

I really enjoyed doing this art project by far one of my favorites. The reason why I really liked this project is I love Disney and I grew up with Disney and drawing this characters is just fun to do. Even though it takes awhile I think its worth all the sketching.

Zentangle Pig
During the process, I use a pen to create my piece. This also led to a lot of smudges around the drawing. I started this work as an assignment in my yearbook class. There was an assignment to draw our own zentangles, so I drew an outline of a pig with zentangles design inside. In the beginning, I didn't think that I'd like the project. But later, I was proven wrong as I find myself enjoying this project more than I thought I would.

My work is a zentangle design of a frog reading! I enjoyed this project because of how calming and fun it was to fill in. I simply used pencil and shading. I chose this subject because I thought it'd be funny, but at the same time, a subject I could work zentangle patterns into.

I enjoyed doing this project. I chose to do a fish because it's one of my favorite animals.

Mushroom Zentangle
I enjoyed this project very much because I was able to create my own patterns and be creative. For this project I used a sharpie thin to draw the designs, a thick sharpie to create the general shape of the mushroom, and color pencils to color in each pattern I drew. I chose to draw a mushroom because I've always found the different patterns on different mushrooms quite interesting and unique.

I enjoyed this project of Donut Art. I chose this project to showcase because it was my favorite and it was the cutest one in my opinion. I also like donuts, so I had to choose this one for the Spring Art Show.

I did enjoy this project because I was drawing next to a friend and it's fun to draw with friends. I used a drawing pad and Medibang to draw. I chose to draw four donuts because that was my homework assignment. I drew a frog donut, a cat donut, a red panda donut, and a hedgehog donut. It was my friend's idea to include the plate and wood background, and I think I did pretty well for the background.

I did enjoy this project because it was fun to make all the little patterns in the shape. I used dark and light mediums. I chose this subject because it was fun to do.

Two Sides of Choice
I enjoyed doing this project when I was working on it. I chose to do this subject because I wanted to do something very experimental when it comes to posters. Having two sides in a singular drawing was something I always wanted to try out and I believe that I pulled it off well. I chose to use a digital program to do this artwork and I think that was a good choice due to my expertise on the program.

Bear Zentangle Art
I enjoyed doing this project! I found that while drawing different zentangle designs, it was quite relaxing. I found that it helped me relieve stress. I also loved how there were many different zentangle patterns to choose from. I used a paper and pencil to do this art piece.

I made this art piece as an assignment for class. It was really fun and enjoyable. The materials I used were simple ones like a wooden pencil and an eraser. The patterns on the turtle is called zentangles.

My work is about equality in race and gender. I have four woman on the donut along with three pride flags. My piece is basically stating that everyone is equal and should be treated equal no matter their color, race, or the way they choose to feel about life. In my artwork, I drew a donut with an animal that I really liked. I decided to draw a frog on a donut because frogs were my favorite type of animal and donuts are some of my favorite deserts. I loved doing this project very much! I chose this project because Hei Hei is one of my favorite movie characters, although Hei Hei is not a main character. Hei Hei's big, bobbly eyes make him very memorable to me.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel
For this work I chose the quote "When the day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find the never ending shade". And when I read this I thought of the light at the end of the tunnel. I chose this because this quote can help you cheer up in the darkest of days.

The Hill We Climb
In this piece, we were urged to pick a phrase from Amanda Gorman’s poem "The Hill We Climb" and illustrate it. I chose, “From every breath from my bronze-pounded chest, we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.” To visualize this, I drew Gorman taking a deep breath, hand on her chest, the words swirling around her like it was the crisp clean air she was breathing in.

I chose this piece to submit because this is a piece that I had a lot of fun doing and got to learn about the guy drawing and his purpose of his channel. I used pencils and colored pencils. 4 Piece Donut Bundle
I drew four donuts, a mocha glazed donut, strawberry glazed donut, matcha glazed mochi donut, and an ube glazed donut. I used just colored pencils as my medium. I chose this subject because donuts are something I really enjoy so I wanted to share my personal favorite flavors. Overall, I enjoyed the project and also the making of this piece because I like anything that's food-related :)

I enjoyed this project very much because this was the art piece I experimented with disproportionate lines and shapes. I liked drawing my Sun Art because it was unique and not something I'd normally draw. I would definitely love to do this again. A medium I used during this art project is water color, crushed dandelion and turmeric mixed with water to create different shades of yellow because I had run out. I chose the subject art because drawing is my form of self expression and its very relaxing to me I love to draw the things Miss Sampi assigns because its always a challenge and something way different than before. I have always enjoyed Miss Sampi's class and chose it for the 3rd time because I genuinely love all the fun ways she teaches the class.

This work was definitely my favorite art from this entire year, because we were able to be the most creative, and then you can add the zentangle designs, the medium that I used was a pencil and a ruler, I chose this subject, because it is fun to do, and it lets me be as creative as possible, and I love drawing, and just drawing whatever I want. This class helps me become better at doing this, and it is fun to try all of these different types of art as well.

My work was inspired off of an artist named Jae Yong Kim. His art was based off of donuts, and it was also an assignment. I enjoyed this project, it was new and I love donuts. I added a twist with it where I made it as a robot that is built out of donuts. I used mostly markers, color pencils, sharpie, and paper. I chose this subject because I found it quite enjoyable and would recommend to people to try it out.

Leaves and Lines
The artwork that I chose for the Spring Art show Submission is my artwork on leaves and line. I enjoyed this project because I got to draw lines around the shape and it does not have to be straight or perfect. I also like the flow of the lines and how it connects with each other. The medium that I used was pencils, color pencils, and a sharpie marker. Overall, this was a project I really enjoy and one of the few projects that I have put effort into and feel like its one of my best artwork that I am proud off so that is why I chose it.

I over lapped shapes over shapes and drew some to connect them and fill them in. I also used the person's video about how to draw Oswald on paper but I looked at it to get an idea of what to make.One more thing, I also didn't make the legs bendy like in the video because I just couldn't do it so I improvised and just made them straight and the feet round blocks. I enjoyed it very much as it was surprising that I was able to make that character on a digital platform. I choose this subject because it's fun and includes hard work as well, so you're having fun and doing hard work as well.
