Classroom Management
Students will be recognized for positive behaviors through Longhorn Pride slips, signing the "awesome board," (another way to earn small rewards for our third grade class only) and being verbally recognized and appreciated.
Students displaying unfavorable classroom behaviors will have a one-on-one discussion with the teacher to reteach the desired classroom behavior. Students who continue to display unfavorable classroom behaviors will experience a loss of privileges related to the behavior. Further inability to correct the behavior will lead to parent contact and/or a visit with the principal. (i.e. interruptions of class, not completing work, inabitlity to keep hands to self)
Behaviors that cause others immediate danger or harm will be dealt with more rapidly, leading to parent contact and a visit to the principal more immediately. (i.e. punching, throwing chairs, threats)
Grading
Grades will be taken on all handed in work. Some daily work (such as in the math textbook) will not be directly scored, but students will receive a daily work grade per quarter based on effort toward practice work and class participation.
On some assignments, students will receive the opportunity to correct errors to receive back half-credit for points they originally missed on an assignment. These assignments will be chosen by teacher discretion, but are often math assignments and vocabulary assignments.
On spelling tests, a half point will be taken for any reversed letters. If it is unclear which letter has been written, the whole word may be counted as incorrect.
