NEWS: Please email Mrs. Aranyos if you're interested in being on the team!
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to join the BHS Reading Team. One team of up to 12 students will travel to Seton Hill University and compete against other county high schools in 4 rounds of questioning. Because there is a limited number of spots on the team, students should read as many books from the list as possible and turn in 20 typed questions per book to study from. Students must read and write questions for 6 books by the time they return from Winter Break to be eligible to attend the in-person competition. Good luck!
The Westmoreland Interscholastic Reading Competition was started in 2001 by Greensburg Salem Middle School in conjunction with the Westmoreland Association of School Librarians to promote reading throughout the county. This event is held at Seton Hill University during their spring break. Our Burrell Bookaneers have the opportunity to compete against other teams in the county to see who can correctly answer the most questions about books they have read. Burrell students have been participating for a number of years and have always enjoyed it.
This website will serve as a means of communication for the Burrell High School Reading Team, the Bookaneers. As a team, students will create summaries, character descriptions, and sample questions for each book on the WIRC list. Happy reading!
