Friday night football games are about more than just what happens on the field. The student section is filled with students cheering, chanting, and supporting their team from the stands. Whether the team makes a big play or needs some encouragement, students are there to show their school spirit. For many students, going to the games is a chance to hang out with friends, represent their school, and be part of something that brings everyone together.
The USA game on September 11 had a patriotic theme, with students wearing red, white, and blue, waving American flags throughout the student section. Patriotic songs played as everyone cheered on the Bucs, who won 42-39 against Greensburg Salem. Student section leader Brennan Green shared why this game was his favorite of the season: "My favorite game was the one against Greensburg Salem. It was the most fun; I had a good time, and I felt very patriotic. I enjoyed crowd surfing in my eagle costume,” Green said. Between the patriotic music, American flags, and Green’s eagle costume, the game gave students a fun way to show their school spirit while supporting the football team.
On September 25, the student section brought a tropical feel to the stands in their best beach attire. Students showed off their sunglasses, leis, swimsuits, and everything in between, transforming the section into what looked like a perfect beach day! With Bob Marley and Sublime playing, the section held onto that summer feel as autumn rolled in. Even as the temperature dropped, the section's energy stayed high. The night brought its fair share of waves and tides, with the Bucs riding the highs and lows before unfortunately losing to North Catholic 20-32.
The White-Out game on October 2 was the homecoming game, with students dressed in white and ready to cheer on the Bucs. Baby powder filled the student section after every point Burrell scored, and the team finished the night with a 22-14 win against Valley. A highlight was our tradition of playing “All of the Lights” by Kanye West, when students turn on their phone flashlights and dance along. Student section leader Kassidy Sutton shared what makes Burrell’s student section different from other schools: “What makes Burrell’s student section different from all the other schools is we all can come together and cheer on our team,” Sutton said. “My favorite student section tradition is either the roller coaster or during timeouts dancing to the music playing on the speaker.” Sutton also explained that students enjoy the games because they get to watch the team, spend time with friends, and represent their school.

The student section is a big part of what makes Friday night football games at Burrell special. From dressing up for each theme to cheering after a big play, students find ways to make every game memorable. Win or lose, the student section gives everyone a chance to support the team, spend time with friends, and show their school spirit! As the season continues, students look forward to more games, new memories, and more chances to show what it means to be a Buc.
