What if senior year could be different?  What if rather than the typical 10-period day, seniors get a chance to explore their future careers and cover their required English and social studies credits at the same time?  What if they could even find jobs, internships, or apprenticeships that would allow them to report to school for only two periods daily?  (Periods 3 and 4).

For four school years, we have been reimagining the senior year.  Our course, Senior Seminar gives students the opportunity to explore and plan for their individual futures while completing their senior year humanities and English requirements. Students enroll in the Senior Seminar course where they work on career-related and/or college related readings, research, and self-exploration. Elements ofLiterature 12, Government, and Economics are woven together to provide students with the opportunity to investigate these disciplines through examining their future world ofwork. Students are encouraged to seek internships during the school day or after as well as network with local businesses and organizations where they may one day find their future career. The course culminates in an end-of-the year celebration and presentation to families, school personnel, and community members that demonstrates the learning that students have acquired over the course of the year. Senior Seminar is offered daily for a 2-period block. All students are invited and welcome to enroll but must be able to attend both periods (the one block) within their schedule.

Pre-Requisite:  Junior-Year Interview for Admission to the Course.  Details are forthcoming.
