Rewards

At Burnside we believe in rewarding positive behaviour and a culture of celebrating each other’s successes and talents. Staff work strategically with students on a weekly basis to improve their behaviour ratio and attendance through Lesson Zero. The rewards programme allows students the opportunity to experience engaging and exciting activities off site, that they may not otherwise have the chance to take part in outside of school.

In addition to the termly rewards, we acknowledge students’ achievements throughout the year through positive phone calls home, postcards of praiseand acknowledgement in our weekly assembly. 

We have 5 special themed weeks throughout the year these weeks are as follows:

• Make a difference

• Anti-bullying

• Be healthy

• Wellbeing

• Be active 

During each of the themed weeks all staff are provided with tokens to give to students. The form class with the most tokens will receive a form prize. 

We have an exciting and innovative rewards system at Burnside College. Students will have access to a range of activities based on their behaviour ratio as measured by our ClassCharts system. Students can aim to access one of our Gold, Silver, Bronze reward experiences on a termly basis and this will be awarded according to the following criteria:

• 100% behaviour ratio - Gold standard

• 95% or above behaviour ratio - Silver standard

• 90% or above behaviour ratio - Bronze standard 

Students must also have 100% attendance over the course of the term (some authorised absences may be allowed at the discretion of the Progress Leader) and should have no disruptive or defiant behaviour logs during social time.

 The aim of this system is to allow students to have a target in terms of their own behaviour for learning and to work with staff to achieve this. The rewards also aim to give students access to opportunities they may not have had previously.
