FIRST Robotics Competition Team 816 was established by John Grater at the Westampton Campus of Burlington County Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 2002. The team continued on and been an active part of our school for the last 25 years, teaching students not only hands-on skills like soldering, machining, and design, but also verbal communication skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and time management. The team has graduated several members whom have risen to success both academically and in their careers. Members have moved on to attend universities such as Columbia, Lehigh, Rowan, Rutgers, Drexel, and WPI and some moved on to work in industry with companies such as Radwell International, Inductotherm, Opex, Sea Box Inc., and Lockheed Martin.
Today, the team is currently in a phase of rebuilding and growth, the number of student members vary between 25 to 50 active members, with 3 teacher mentors and a collective of parent mentors. Student members come from a variety BCIT’s various technical career shops including, but not limited to, Advertising Art and Design, Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Culinary, Drafting, Electronics, and Veterinary.
