Biography
Hello! I'm Mr. Acosta, the Pre-Engineering Instructor at BCIT - Westampton. 2023 - 2024 will be my 7th year teaching. Below is just a short Q&A about myself.
Why engineering?
Growing up I was always fascinated by race cars, in particular Formula 1. This fascination evolved into what made them go as fast as they did and stick to the road. That evolution continued into understanding how things work in general, this led to many hours spent surfing the web, watching the discovery and science channels, and even tearing things apart when I was given the chance.
What projects have you worked on?
Too many to count. My workbench is littered with Arduinos and other miscellaneous components. Recently, I have gotten into Raspberry Pis and advancing some of my projects using a more powerful computer. Here's a list of some notable projects:
An LCD screen readout for a racing simulator rig via USB and background network data.
FIRST Robotics Competition Robots (As a student: 2008-2011; As a mentor: 2013- Present).
Formula SAE Race Car at Lehigh University (X-42, X-43, X-44, X-45).
High school senior project: Electric Go-Kart, 3-D Modeled F1 Car designed to the 2011 Spec rules.
Car sensor for bicycles and motorcycles using ultrasonic sensors.
Master's Thesis: "Validation of Pair-Potential Models for Use in Simulating Titanate Nanostructures"
What shop were you in at BCIT?
Pre-Engineering of course!
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
Why yes, yes I do! I play video games, race RC cars, and like photography including Drone photography. I am also a huge Marvel movie and TV fan, Star Wars, Star Trek, Disney, and a whole lot more!
