Mr. Joseph Latigona is the Criminal Justice Instructor and Career and Technical Education Head Teacher at the Burlington County Institute of Technology (BCIT). A veteran of the United States Army and retired police officer with more than 25 years of law enforcement experience, Mr. Latigona brings extensive real-world knowledge to the classroom. During his law enforcement career, he served as a School Resource Officer for both BCIT and the Lenape School District, where he developed a passion for mentoring and educating young people.
Mr. Latigona holds a Bachelor's degree from Rowan University and a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Since joining BCIT in 2011, he has dedicated himself to preparing students for careers in law enforcement, forensic science, legal studies, and public service. He is a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board at Rowan College at Burlington County and is an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In recognition of his commitment to student success, innovative instruction, and leadership in career and technical education, Mr. Latigona was named the 2025–2026 Governor's Teacher of the Year for BCIT. Through a combination of academic rigor and real-world application, he is committed to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system and preparing them for successful careers in public service.
