Rhetoric & Argumentative Writing

Stating Your Case

What do politicians and soup cans have in common? They both use the persuasive appeals to develop and ultimately sell their pitch to the public. What makes a strong, effective speech? What makes an enticing advertisement? In our first unit, we will look at how to identify the persuasive techniques people use as well as hone our skills of incorporating them into our speeches and debates. We will also learn about the various rhetorical devices that can help enhance argumentative writing. This unit is crucial for our Communication Skills class and students' writing portion on the ACT, which is an argumentative essay. Be warned: students will have enhance persuasive skills by the end of this unit!

Please refer to the calendar on our class's main page for due dates and assignments. Most assignments will be assigned/given in class or in our class's Google Classroom.
