IES Counseling Department

Welcome to Icard Elementary! My name is Camey Ervin and I'm very excited about serving your students! My passion is to help students become successful, caring, and respectful individuals who can accomplish their goals by developing a desire to become lifelong learners who will maximize their potential within themselves.  As your child's School Counselor, I provide individual and small-group counseling, academic, social-emotional, career exploration, Crisis Intervention, Conflict Resolution, and Consultation/collaboration.  I also do Minute Meetings at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. I conduct short face-to-face conferences (minute meetings) with all students in grades K-5. During this time, I ask students questions that allow me to check in with them about any issues they may be experiencing, let them reflect on their school year so far, think about career choices, and remind them where to find me for follow-up or if needs arise. I can collect data from these meetings, which will help drive the school's comprehensive school counseling program which addresses the cognitive, social/emotional, and career needs of all students. Ultimately, the Minute Meetings allow all students to meet with me and understand I am here to support them.

I received my undergraduate degree from Gardner-Webb University, my graduate degree from Appalachian State University, and my licensure in School Administration from Appalachian State University. I formerly served BCPS's as a high school EC teacher, and high school and middle school counselor. I was a co-teacher for ELA and served as the FHS Gospel Choir Director. I'm also a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 21 years of experience.

I hope you as parents find the resources on this page helpful while providing your students the support they need to thrive in their academic, career, and social/emotional development (click on the Resource Link above).  If I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me by calling (828) 397-3491.
