Algebra: Concepts & Connections is typically taught in the 9th grade within the Burke County School System. The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of 8th-grade mathematics. Some students will take this course for the entire year, while others may opt for a semester-long version. For those enrolled in the year-long Algebra: Concepts & Connections (Co-Requisite: Algebra Support/Concepts & Connections), Algebra Support is integrated into the course structure. Upon successful completion of this course, students generally progress to either Geometry: Concepts & Connections or Advanced Algebra: Concepts & Connections.
Important Assessment Information:
The Georgia End of Course Milestone accounts for 20% of your student's final course average.
Encourage Daily Attendance: Ensure your student attends school each day to avoid interruptions in their learning process.
Promote Questions: Encourage your student to ask questions before, during, and after class to clarify any doubts.
Provide a Quiet Study Area: Create a distraction-free study environment for your student, free from cell phones, televisions, and other electronic devices.
Encourage Seeking Help: Remind your student to reach out to their teacher for extra tutoring or assistance when needed.
Encourage Self-Assessment: Encourage your student to see the power in self-assessment, including concepts like evaluation, reflection, goal-setting, and mastering learning targets and their associated self-assessment. Please encourage them to identify their strengths and areas for improvement in their work. This practice not only helps them take ownership of their learning but also prepares them for future assessments.
