The Science Contest challenges students to read widely in biology, chemistry and physics, to understand the significance of experiments rather than to recall obscure details, and to be alert to new discoveries and information in the areas of science. It is designed to help students gain an understanding of the basic principles as well as knowledge of the history and philosophy of science, and to foster a sense of enthusiasm about science and how it affects our daily lives.
Welcome to the science UIL contest. The science contest is actually 5 contests in one. There are awards given for top individuals in biology, chemistry and physics. As well as top 3 overall in everything and top team score. All the sciences cover basic questions as well as questions that are covered in AP science and beyond. In advanced competitions one can expect most, if not all questions, to be at an AP/ college level.
All students are welcome to practice with the science team as there is no formal tryout. The team of six is decided in February and will be based off the students whom make the highest scores on practice meet tests and invitationals. Typical the team is made up of juniors and seniors.
The Burkburnett High School Science Team has been the district champ for the last 6 years. We have placed in the top 3 schools at the regional level for the past several years. In 2012 we had a science team advance to state. We have won top chemistry at the district level for as long as I can remember. Individually we have placed in the top 2 chemistry students at the regional level for many years and have had students advance to state in chemistry and physics.
