In 5th grade, students deepen their reading comprehension skills by engaging with a wide range of texts, including literary works, informational passages, poetry, and drama. They learn to determine central ideas and themes, analyze characters and text structures, and compare and contrast across genres. Students are expected to use text evidence to support their understanding, summarize accurately, and expand their academic vocabulary. They also continue developing fluency and strategies for approaching more complex texts. By the end of the year, students are prepared to read critically, think analytically, and apply their skills across subjects as they transition to middle school.Â
