Read to your child every day: It helps them learn how to read with expression and pauses. When your child starts reading, read to each other. You read a book then your child reads a book.
Ask questions about the story when you are reading or when your child is reading.
Have your child look for phonics clues when they come to a word they do not know. Things like Sh, ch, ai, igh then have them sound out the word. Do not just tell them the word. They will feel successful when they can sound out the word on their own.
Find online games that help your child with reading.
Take your child to the library to find books they are interested in reading.
Be a good example. If you are reading, your child will know that reading is important.
