The purpose of these tests are to prepare students for SAT and ACT tests in high school. All words have been taken from SAT/ACT prep materials, and therefore, the definitions listed on the individual sets are the ones that will be used for the quizzes.
Students will take this timed test every Friday at the start of class. Thursday deviations are noted on the schedule below.
If a student can't recall the definition, a sentence can be used to get partial credit. This sentence, however, must show the meaning of the word in order to get credit.
If a word has more than one definition, students are only expected to come up with ONE of the definitions from the Set document per unit.
Each set list contains three sets of vocabulary words. Please scroll down for the subsequent set lists.
All quizzes will be a daily grade, and no corrections may be completed.
Make sure you use the definition of the word that is close to what I provide here. For example, “agitate” can mean to irritate or disturb, but in the SAT/ACT language, the definition needed is “campaign to raise public concern in hope of prompting action” such as “They agitated for a reversal of the decision.” Always check the definition that I give first.
