Hi! I’m Emily Reed, and this will be my 24th year in the classroom. Over the years, I’ve taught both seventh and eighth-grade science, as well as Pre-AP and AP Biology at the high school level. You may know me as Emily Birk—I recently got married over the summer and am still adjusting to my new name, but I’ve never been happier!

Teaching runs in my blood. I come from a proud Burkburnett teaching family—both of my parents were teachers here, and I’m a lifelong Bulldog through and through. I truly bleed orange and black!

Outside of the classroom, I’m a proud mom to Ella, Tess, and Tate. Ella is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and is now adulting in OKC. Tess is a junior at BHS, and Tate is starting his freshman year. You’ll often find me cheering them on in their activities, sipping a Sonic Diet Dr. Pepper, and juggling life with my menagerie of pets.

In my free time, I love reading, listening to podcasts, cooking, crafting, painting, and graphic design. Creativity is a huge part of who I am.

Even after 24 years, I still love what I do. Middle schoolers are hilariously amazing, and teaching science is just plain fun. I’m excited for another fantastic year ahead!
