I won't be the first lady in business to sell properties, nor will I be the last. What is for certain is that I am the only Bunsen Lady, and they often say what sales a property is trust.
What is trust? Feeling like your seller understands you, your concerns, your desires, they are interested in knowing what makes you sit-up, and what makes you turn away. Now when you combine this with effective and smart marketing that reaches across borders, appealing to the diasporians wanting to set-up a place in their home country. Disporians filled with questions and doubt, yet encouraged by brave souls that tested the waters before them, a brave soul that wants others to experience her transformation. A brave soul that is patient enough to listen, and makes you feel at ease. A brave soul that you can learn to trust.
Why the wait? Why the hurry? Growth should be phased... you can only climb one ladder at a time.
In 2022 I gave it a good attempt, to run all three Bunsen Group entities simultaneously and I quickly learnt that traction requires dedication, focus, and the time to transform yourself into an expert; one field at a time. Yes, push outside of your comfort zone, but not to the point where you break.
Gaining access to properties was never an issue. I know how to build relationships with developers by just being me; charming, real and honest. The challenge was in the continuous marketing needed to build up a customer base.
At first I tried operating in the short-lets business, but soon learnt that the ROI was not worth my time when compared to my hourly rate. To succeed in the property space, I needed to sale apartments, I needed to build connections with diaspora communities outside of Nigeria. I needed to build recognition and respect, and all of this was quite difficult whilst starting up two other businesses in Nigeria, and maintaining a remote working contract.
So I decided to pause... To first build the other two entities and then leverage on the elevated platform they would place me on.
I'm driven by an old vision to ensure that my children of the future have a property in their name, a property that can pay for their university fees and more, or a property that provides the seed investment for their business start-up. Now that I am married, the vision hasn't changed.
Bunsen Apartments is how I see myself contributing towards my families future, whilst my husband also contributes via his own business ventures.
