In online class we use a different application and websites to communicate and do the activities, also the discussion is online. You discuss online and do the activities online you can read again the lesson you can watch again the discussion. While the face to face class more in person dialogue and conversations and we have physical interactions with our teachers and the classes have a fixed schedule.
The world we live in is ever changing and fast paced and so are its learners. Today’s generation of students are born in an era immersed in technology and have rightfully gained the title “digital natives'' (Prenksy, 2001). Their familiarity with all things digital gave rise to their needs and expectations evolving. Consequently, although the basic concept of school has stayed the same, there has been a dramatic shift in the education system to provide the needs of this new generation of learners.
Shaw (2006) have identified key differences between the 20th century classroom and 21st century classroom. One of the most prominent changes is a more active participation of the learners. Before, learners were seen as passive receivers of knowledge with the teacher being the sole provider of information. Now, the repetitive practices and memorization are long gone and are replaced by activities that promote critical thinking. Shaw (2006) also mentioned that while before, students had little to no freedom, the students of today are given a great deal of liberty in achieving their learning goals as they enjoy the right of self and peer assessments. Hence, student-teacher relationships are not anymore fueled by intimidation and discipline but by mutual respect as they become co-learners in the process.
How can I be fit to become a 21st century filipino teacher, as a teacher I need more teaching strategies and able to reach all children the different kinds of learners and also I need to more know how to use different kinds of technology especially if needed in teaching or in school and I will build first a good relationship to my students and having the ability to think more ideas and to embrace change, change of the students and everything. I will do my best to become a 21st century filipino teacher.
