Ahoy! I'm Mr. Young, and I'm passionate about helping students unlock their potential in math. I hold degrees in Mathematics and Science and Mathematics Education and have been teaching high school math since 2014. When I'm not teaching, I love Dungeons and Dragons and other RPG's.
In my classroom, I believe in creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and asking questions. We explore math concepts in a hands-on way, and I encourage collaboration and problem-solving skills. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the "aha!" moment when a student finally grasps a challenging concept.
I'm always looking for new ways to improve my teaching, and I regularly participate in professional development opportunities.
"Mr. Young made sure that each senior had a pathway to success, no matter what."

BCHS Vision and Mission as Decided by the Staff of BCHS
Vision: To prepare all students with the skills they need for the future.
Mission: To provide equitable and quality instructional experiences for the whole student.
In my math classes, I'm dedicated to fulfilling the BCHS vision by equipping all students with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing future. This aligns perfectly with the district's profile of a graduate. Through engaging and differentiated instruction, I foster students' growth as:
Self-Directed Navigators: becoming adept at researching solutions, independently tackling challenges, and setting personal learning goals in math.
Productive Collaborators: actively practice teamwork, communication, and constructive criticism as we explore math concepts together.
Innovative Problem Solvers: encouraging creative approaches to solving problems, building critical thinking and adaptability.
Effective Communicators: explaining their mathematical reasoning clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Mastery Learners: emphasizing a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace challenges and persevere in their pursuit of mathematical understanding.
Community Contributors: involving the community in various forms, empowering students to make connections with the real world, and solve social issues.
By empowering students in these areas, I ensure they develop a strong foundation in math, fostering their confidence and preparing them for success in college, careers, and beyond.
