Sophie Smith
Engineering Teacher
Room 102
Hello everyone!
My name is Sophie Smith and I am the new engineering teacher at Bullitt East High School.
For a little bit on my background, I am a two-time graduate from Morehead State University with a B.S. in Science, majoring in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology and a M.S. in Science, majoring in Engineering Technology Management. I am starting the M.S. Arts of Teaching program at Eastern Kentucky University with a focus on Engineering and Technology (Grades 5-12) in the Fall of 2025.Â
My journey with engineering started when I participated on a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team while I was in high school. From there, I have volunteered with the program for over 6 years and my time as a volunteer has allowed me to work with kids of all ages. My history with FIRST fueled my passion for wanting to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to discover what the world of STEM has to offer, no matter their background.
During my time at BEHS, I hope to challenge, inspire, and guide my students towards success in an ever-changing world, where STEM professionals are needed more now than ever. My goal as a teacher is not just to teach them the skills needed to thrive as a potential future engineer, but to succeed in any career that they may gravitate towards. Let's work together towards inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers.
