About Me

Hello, my name is Ashley Hettinger. I am very excited to be your students' 1st-grade teacher! This will be my 7th year as a classroom teacher at Cedar Grove. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade as well as preschool. I have a Bachelor's degree in Early Elementary Education from the University of Louisville and a Master's Degree in School Library Media and Teacher Leadership from EKU. In addition to teaching first grade, I also coach our Viking Academic Team for 3rd-5th graders and am a PTO teacher representative.

Our Daily Schedule

Students will go to one special area a week. PE, STEM, Music/Art.

Every Wednesday we will go to Library in addition to our other special areas.

High Frequency Words

High Frequency Words (sight words) are very important for a students reading success. In our classroom students are given their lists as new phonics patterns and spelling rules are taught. Students will be encouraged to practice their words daily and be assessed weekly to see which words they can read fluently without assistance.
